Značku Hoka (původně Hoka One One) založili ve Francii v roce 2009 Nicolas Mermoud a Jean-Luc Diard, bývalí zaměstnanci společnosti Salomon, s jasným cílem – usnadnit a zpříjemnit běh z kopce. V době, kdy světu vládl trend takzvaného bosého (minimalistického) běhání, přišla Hoka s naprostým opakem.
