MIPS® Technology (Multi-Directional Impact Protection System) consists of three main parts. The EPS polystyrene shell, the MIPS slip liner and the elastomers that connect the first two parts. In the event of an angled impact, the elastomers will stretch, allowing the helmet shell to move slightly against the MIPS liner, absorbing rotational forces. This is a movement on the order of millimetres. But even these few millimeters, during those critical 2 milliseconds, can significantly reduce the amount of rotational forces that would otherwise be transmitted to the brain.
