What types of mountain bikes are there?
You’ve already decided what kind of riding you want to do. Now we’ll help you choose the bike you need. The most common types include trail and XC bikes. Both types can be full-suspension with front and rear shocks, or hardtails without a rear shock.
Full-suspension mountain bikes
Full-suspension bikes offer better comfort and handling off-road thanks to both front and rear suspension, which improves traction. The downside is higher weight, lower pedalling efficiency and more demanding maintenance.
MTB hardtails
Bikes with front suspension (hardtails) are lighter, easier to maintain and faster in sprints and climbs. In rough terrain, however, they provide worse handling and traction, which they compensate for with wider tyres.
