The AR weekend will encourage you to explore new cycling experiences and explore places you've never seen before. It is a versatile and very comfortable road bike with an aluminium frame, disc brakes and wider tyres. It is designed for those who have a thirst for adventure and are also looking for a bike that is affordable.

TheContend AR is built on a modern and lightweight ALUXX aluminium frame with internal bowden routing and integrated saddle clamp. Manufactured from high quality aluminium alloy in our own factory, ALUXX frames deliver high stiffness and strength at low weight. For better vibration damping and thus reduced hand fatigue, the bike is equipped with a carbon fork (the fork post is also carbon).

ALUXX Aluminum Technology
 The frame material, with a focus on performance cycling, features 6061 alloy with single reinforced tubes. It is used to produce strong and lightweight framesets for a variety of bike types and riding styles.

Giant Tubeless System
 Fewer flats. Better tire grip. Less rolling resistance, more comfortable and faster ride. With Giant's tubeless system, you can enjoy all these benefits. The rims come with tubeless tape and valves from the factory, so all you have to do is apply sealant and your wheels are fully ready for tubeless.

D-Fuse Saddle
 The D-Fuse saddle is designed to dampen vibration and absorb shock from the riding surface to make the ride more comfortable. This works by making the seatpost slightly springy under load, thanks to its specific "D" shape.

Overdrive
The oversize front fork post technology is designed to increase the stiffness of the front of the frameset and steering for precise bike handling. It includes oversize headset bearings (lower 1 1/4" and upper 1 1/8" on road bikes and lower 1 1/2" and upper 1 1/8" on MTB bikes) and a tapered fork post for optimal steering stiffness.

Compact Road Design
When Giant introduced the Compact Road design in the 1990s, it changed the look and feel of performance road bikes forever. The angled lowered top frame tube (from head tube to seat tube) creates a smaller front, and subsequently rear, frame triangle, achieving a lighter, stiffer bike. It also makes it easier for riders with different proportions to achieve the ideal seating position.

The frame is designed to provide high comfort, even on roads with poorer surfaces. Also helping to increase comfort is the D-Fuse carbon seatpost, which, thanks to its specific "D" shape, allows for a slight "spring" to help dampen vibrations. The Contend AR 1 is also fitted with D-Fuse handlebars, which offer a slight downward flex while providing high stiffness on the uphill side.

The disc brakes provide strong stopping power and smooth modulation, improving the bike's handling, even in changeable weather. The brakes are mounted using modern flat mount mounts and 12mm solid axles provide the necessary stiffness. The wider 32c tyres (34mm wide at the rim) are tubeless, giving improved handling and helping to reduce the risk of punctures.
