Mountain biking is a demanding sport – compromising on equipment is definitely not a good idea. The 4Forty helmet is built to withstand the challenges of the trails.

Its quality matches helmets that cost twice as much: it has a deep profile covering the back of the head, is perfectly ventilated, fits the head precisely thanks to the Float Fit retention system, and has an adjustable visor.

All Bell helmets are designed to absorb as much impact energy as possible and meet the current European standard: EN 1078. The goal of the new MIPS technology is to eliminate rotational forces acting on the head in the event of a fall. In an impact from any angle, the MIPS system allows the helmet’s EPS shell to rotate independently around the rider’s head.

Although this movement is only a matter of a few millimetres, we believe MIPS technology significantly reduces the amount of rotational force that could otherwise be transferred to the brain.

MIPS (Multi-Directional Impact Protection System)
MIPS provides increased protection against rotational forces acting on the head. MIPS is a low-friction liner between the EPS shell (the helmet body) and the internal padding. In the event of an angled impact (for example, if your head catches on a branch), the helmet’s EPS shell rotates a few millimetres along the MIPS layer, helping to protect the head and brain from a sudden rotational jolt.
