Shimano was founded in 1921 by Shozaburo Shimano (after whom the company is named), but the company saw its greatest growth in the 1970s, when it began manufacturing bicycle parts. It has 32 consolidated and 11 unconsolidated subsidiaries and a main production site in China (Kushan), as well as in Malaysia and Singapore.
