Polarization

strong>eliminates glare and sharpens vision

Driving, skiing, cycling, golf or water sports are all associated with the need for high contrast vision. These activities are usually carried out in non-ideal lighting conditions such as white snow, hot roads and shiny water, alternating light and shade, etc.Sunglasses with polarization eliminate unpleasant glare, sharpen vision and protect the eyes from the harsh, blinding sunlight that could otherwise momentarily blind us.

Polarization - an old phenomenon

Polarization means the alignment of wave planes. The sun has been shining for millions of years, and the principles of polarization have fascinated scientists since the beginning of science. In the 16th century, the Dane Erasmus Bartholinus described the principles of this phenomenon. Many inventions and discoveries have been brought to light by military interests, and polarization is no different. An important study on it was written by the French military engineer Etienne Malus in 1808 - its aim was to reduce the glare of observed objects, in this particular case the Luxembourg Palace. In 1929, Edwin Land (who has 535 patents to his credit) discovered the first synthetic polarizing material for commercial use.

Polarization - a phenomenon of modern times

This phenomenon only hit us full force in the 20th century, and one of its results is a modern invention - polarized glasses, which eliminate a very high percentage of all glare and reflections unpleasant to the human eye. Light reflected from smooth surfaces (road, water surface, panes of glass in windows, etc.) is mostly horizontally polarized (= directional). This is then blocked by the vertical polarizers in the lenses of polarized glasses. The result is a reduction of annoying and dangerous glare. A clear application of polarized glasses is in driving. In recent years, the benefits of polarized glasses have been discovered for fans of all "outdoor sports." Their popularity has thus entered the world of skiing, golf, sailing, fishing, cycling, rallying, Formula 1, etc.
